The word "Tel" in Turkish means "wire", and the art of using wire to make gold or silver jewelry is called "Telkari."

The creation of this lavish jewelry is a very elaborate process, requiring great expertise and patience. The silver is first melted and then poured into a mould that yields thin rods measuring a millimeter in diameter. Next, the rods are transformed into wires by being drawn through a perforated steel plate. Once the wires are ready, master craftsmen create each design by hand. Finally, the tiny circular pieces are welded together.

Caring for Your Telkari Jewelry

For Telkari jewelry embellished with stones, polish with a soft cloth specially made for cleaning silver. A regular eraser may also be used. If you are not satisfied with the results, try a liquid cleaner. However, do not immerse your jewelry in the liquid solution for more than one minute, and never use a liquid cleaner if your Telkari jewelry has blue stones.
